Folding Arm Awnings Made to Measure

Yes. Awnings work by blocking the sun before it reaches your windows. In a Sydney study, an external shade on a north-facing window cut annual cooling demand by 71.8% (Sorooshnia et al., 2023). Your result depends on which way your windows face and how much of the glass the awning covers, so our consultant will assess your home at your free measure and quote. For a hotter west-facing wall, we can also talk you through roller shutters as an added layer.

Barely. In the same study, heating load rose by only 0.8%. The main trade-off is less daylight, which is why many people choose a retractable folding arm awning or a Ziptrak outdoor blind that opens up to winter sun.

The NSW Government puts external shading for windows and doors at roughly $200 to $5,000 or more depending on the product. Apollo Blinds quotes every awning after a free in-home measure, so the price reflects your exact size, fabric and choice of manual or motorised operation.

Less than having one at all. In the Sydney study, eight different shade designs each cut incoming solar radiation by between 55.19% and 60.22%. That means you can choose the style and colour that suit your home, and focus on getting the size and position right.

For a deck or alfresco area, folding arm awnings give the largest shaded space, with Apollo folding arm awnings up to 9600 mm wide and 3600 mm projection. Ziptrak outdoor blinds add wind, rain and low-sun protection around the sides so you can use the space in more weather.

Yes. Apollo Blinds offers manual and motorised options, and folding arm awnings can have sun and wind sensors that retract the awning automatically. Ask your consultant which options suit your awning type.
