Trusted by Australian Homes
Why Sydney Homeowners Choose Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds remain one of the most practical window furnishing solutions for Australian homes due to their versatility, affordability, and ease of operation. Their rotating vertical slats allow you to control natural light, privacy, and airflow throughout the day while maintaining a clean and modern appearance.
Unlike many window coverings designed primarily for small windows, vertical blinds perform exceptionally well across wide openings, sliding doors, and full-height windows commonly found in modern homes, apartments, offices, and commercial spaces.
Their side-stacking operation makes them particularly effective in high-traffic areas where regular access to doors and outdoor spaces is needed. Whether you want to reduce harsh afternoon glare, soften natural light, or improve daytime privacy, vertical blinds provide flexible control without overwhelming the room visually.
Apollo Blinds custom-makes every vertical blind to suit your exact window dimensions, helping create a cleaner fit, smoother operation, and more professional finish compared to off-the-shelf alternatives.

Vertical Blinds for Sliding Doors and Large Windows
Vertical blinds are one of the most effective solutions for sliding doors and wide window openings because the slats stack neatly to one side, allowing easier access and smoother operation compared to many other blind styles.
This makes them highly suitable for:
- living rooms
- dining rooms
- alfresco access doors
- apartments
- office boardrooms
- commercial spaces
- full-height windows
The adjustable slats allow you to direct natural light while maintaining privacy during the day. You can partially tilt the vanes to soften harsh sunlight or fully open them for unobstructed outdoor views and airflow.
For homes exposed to strong afternoon sun, vertical blinds can also help reduce glare on televisions, computer screens, and reflective flooring surfaces.
Vertical Blinds for Sydney Conditions
Australian homes deal with intense sunlight, UV exposure, glare, and changing seasonal temperatures. Choosing the right window furnishings plays a major role in improving indoor comfort throughout the year.
Vertical blinds are particularly effective in Australian environments because they provide:
- adjustable sunlight control
- privacy without fully blocking natural light
- reduced glare
- easy-clean surfaces
- durable fabric options
- practical airflow management
Blockout fabrics help reduce strong sunlight and improve room darkening, while light-filtering fabrics soften daylight without making interiors feel enclosed.
For coastal homes, apartments, and busy family households, vertical blinds also remain popular due to their relatively low maintenance and straightforward cleaning requirements.
Choosing the Right Vertical Blind Fabric
The fabric you choose affects privacy, lighting, room comfort, and overall appearance. Apollo Blinds offers a wide selection of vertical blind fabrics designed to suit different rooms, lifestyles, and interior styles.
Blockout Vertical Blinds
Blockout vertical blinds are designed for stronger privacy and glare reduction. They are particularly suitable for:
- bedrooms
- media rooms
- living rooms with strong afternoon sun
- street-facing windows
- offices requiring screen glare reduction
These fabrics help minimise sunlight penetration while creating a cleaner and more private interior environment.
Light Filtering Vertical Blinds
Light-filtering fabrics soften incoming daylight while maintaining a bright and comfortable atmosphere. They are commonly selected for:
- living areas
- kitchens
- dining rooms
- apartments
- open-plan spaces
This option allows natural light to enter the room while improving daytime privacy and reducing harsh glare.
Textured and Decorative Fabrics
Textured vertical blind fabrics add softness and visual depth to interiors while still maintaining the practicality vertical blinds are known for.
These fabrics are popular in:
- modern homes
- contemporary apartments
- office fit-outs
- minimalist interiors
They help create a softer appearance compared to plain flat fabrics while maintaining easy operation and maintenance.
Vertical Blinds vs Roller Blinds
Both vertical blinds and roller blinds are highly practical window furnishing options, but they suit different applications.
Vertical blinds are typically better for:
- sliding doors
- very wide windows
- commercial spaces
- adjustable directional light control
- easy walk-through access
Vertical blinds also allow more flexible light direction control because the slats can rotate throughout the day rather than being either fully raised or lowered.
Roller blinds are preferred for:
- smaller windows
- minimalist interiors
- layered window furnishings
- compact spaces
- streamlined appearance
For many homes, the ideal solution is often combining different blind types throughout different rooms depending on functionality and window size.
Custom-Made Fabric Vertical Blinds
Every Apollo Blinds vertical blind is custom-made to suit your measurements, room layout, and operational requirements.
This includes:
- track sizing
- stacking direction
- fabric selection
- reveal or face fitting
- slat width configuration
- light control preferences
A professionally measured and installed blind creates:
- smoother operation
- improved appearance
- better light management
- cleaner alignment
- more precise fitting
Custom-made blinds also help reduce common issues associated with poorly fitted ready-made products, including uneven operation, light gaps, and premature wear.
Sloping Vertical Blinds
Sloping vertical blinds are specifically designed for angled windows, raked ceilings, stairwells, and architectural glazing where standard blinds are not suitable.
These systems are custom-manufactured to follow the angle of the window while still providing practical light control and privacy.
They are commonly installed in:
- modern architectural homes
- loft conversions
- stair voids
- cathedral ceilings
- feature windows
Note: These are a specialized type designed for windows that are not perfectly vertical, such as skylights, conservatories, or angled windows in lofts.
